What are the advantages and disadvantages of globe valves?

Characteristic of globe valve:

(1) The structure of globe valve is simpler than that of gate valve, and the manufacture and maintenance are more convenient.

(2) The sealing surface is not easy to wear and scratch, and has good sealing performance. There is no relative sliding between the disc and the sealing surface of the valve body when the valve is opened and closed, so the wear and scratch are not serious, the sealing performance is good, and the service life is long.

(3) When opening and closing, the disc travel is small, so the height of the globe valve is smaller than that of the gate valve, but the length of the structure is longer than that of the gate valve.

(4) The opening and closing moment is big, the opening and closing are laborious, and the opening and closing time is principal.

(5) The fluid resistance is large, because the medium passage inside the valve body is tortuous, the fluid resistance is large, and the power consumption is large.

(6) When the nominal pressure PN is less than 16 MPa, the medium generally flows downstream, and the medium flows downward from the bottom of the valve; when the nominal pressure PN is more than 20 MPa, the medium generally flows downstream from the top of the valve to increase the sealing performance. When used, the medium of globe valve can only flow in one direction, and can not change the direction of flow.

(7) The disc is often eroded when fully opened.


The stem axis of the globe valve is perpendicular to the sealing surface of the seat. The opening or closing stroke of the stem is relatively short, and the valve has a very reliable cut-off action, which makes the valve suitable for cutting or regulating and throttling as a medium.
